Waterfalls of western Maui

By June 21, 2020 No Comments

This video is an edited version of a Blue Hawaiian helicopter flight of the western half of Maui that focuses on the very high waterfalls on that side of the island. Water from frequent rains passes through porous volcanic rocks until it reaches more dense layers where it emerges as waterfalls. Over time the rock is eroded back by the water forming ledges referred referred to as “key holes.” The degree of erosion is more apparent in the older rocks of the western side of Maui, more so than on the much larger eastern side defined by Mount Haleakala.
