Wailea Beach – Massive Beach Erosion

By July 1, 2019 3 Comments

Wailea Beach is located in front of the Grand Wailea and the Four Seasons. It is a beach that I have been going to for my whole life. This weekend we had some moderate surf and the beginning of one of two king tides this summer. This beach has been seeing some major erosion over the last few years. Today was the most beach loss that I have seen so far. A few more king tides and large surf will just take more and more of this beach away. South Maui, and Hawai’i are seeing massive beach loss over the last decade.

Matt – a sad but much needed post. Its happening much quicker than anticipated around the Chesapeake Bay and East Coast beaches – that is – shore erosion, loss of farmland and regular street flooding within the scope of normal tide changes. The Paris Agreement on Climate Change became effective in November of 2016. Yet in June of 2017 our President sadly withdrew the USA from this much celebrated and worldwide accord. Like many I find this unconscionable. We obviously need a plan – and every elected official should be able to recite his/hers without equivocation! Its time for everyone to become an absolute badger on this issue! Tic-Toc!!!

  • Sadly I think this is the case at many beaches on all the islands. I know the beach in Kailua, Oahu is all but gone at high tide.
