The swell was too big for us to not go check it out. This northwest swell was the largest in 10-years to hit Maui and everyone was out to watch it on Maui’s north shore.
Erica, Henry, Hattie, and I watched the waves break at Ho’okipa Lookout. We wanted to go to Pe’ahi ( or Jaws as is more popularly known) to watch big wave surfing but the crowds were too big. We weren’t up for that but Ho’okipa lookout, just down the road, was just as impressive. The waves were huge and they only got bigger as the day went on.

Your channel is keeping me going until I become a snowbird. I cannot move to the islands full time, but as a Canadian Vancouverite who is aspiring to a career as a firefighter, I know I want my vacation to be here, no question.
Thank you.
I was in Waikiki from December 25, 2020 til January 1st, 2021… Hawaii is doing a great job balancing COVID w/Tourism! I am from Los Angeles but love the Balmy Weather in Hawaii
I was there watching surf!
Where can I find the list of the places that I can get tested before coming to Hawaii?
I was at "the locals spot' watching the local boys at Jaws on Saturday. Never gets old. Think I saw you guys but I didn't want to stop and make things weird lol
Aloha
The wife and I were there last week. We loved Maui! All our activities were picked based of your other videos. Thank you!
We've got Mavericks in our area. It's kicking' too. Ocean Beach in SF has great big surf, which is quite unusual.
Thanks to you guys, my husband and I have just spent the last week enjoying all the beauty the island has to offer. We're at Olowalu in a Tentalow tonight and flying home to Maine tomorrow night! You're right– those waves have been insane! Mahalo for all the suggestions, we have had a great trip.
I was there on the 8th of Jan, saw 30ft waves for the first time it was amazing
🌊🌊
I was at jaws soo gnarly
Looks abut 10 ft not much more jaws is always bigger deeper water than Hookipa
So nice to saw the people wear mask even in the out door! Thank you for be responsible!
I wonder if the turtles still come to shore there when the surf is that high? I have lots of pictures of those turtles when I was there in 2018.
It was great meeting both of you on that windy day. Thanks for the tips.
You missed the opportunity to answer questions about Jaws. Do not try to drive down the dirt road, it's muddy with ruts. Park up top and pay for a ride down or do the 45 minute walk. Bring cash. If you're adventurous you can take a trail down to the shore, (steep in places). At the shoreline don't get comfy on the rocks, big waves.
this wasnt the biggest in 10 years. you guys listen to the news too much
